Appearance: medium gold. Nose: distinct flor-affected nose with almond and a slight vinegary aromas but supported by quite vinous, apple fruit. Unusual. Palate: medium acidity, quite mineral on the palate, pleasant green apple fruit, more flor-derived flavours and quite good length. Conclusion: this is a fascinating wine to taste, a collaboration between Jesus Barquin’s Equipo Navazos and Dirk Niepoort. This has to be the only flor-affected, but also non-fortified and non-sherry style wine I have tasted. Rated purely as a wine blind it would not garner particularly high marks (I'll incline towards generosity as this is the only sample I've come across). But culturally... more
