Appearance: medium brown-amber colour. Nose: definite Amontillado nose – dried fruits, nuts, acetic – but much more mellowed than on younger examples and with more of an ‘acetic’ edge, although clearly the flor would have died a long time ago. Complex. Palate: rich but mellowed fruit, nutty (but in the ‘sour nuts’ camp rather than the ‘Christmas cake’ brigade), acetic with integrated lowish acidity and basically dry. Lovely length. Conclusion: it’s a privilege and something of an education to taste Sherry this old.
