Appearance: deep amber green. Nose: complex nose of honeyed grapefruit, slight lychee, gingerbread and integrated botrytis. Palate: excellent combination of honeyed fruit, botrytis, moderate residual sugar (probably higher chemically than it tastes owing to the age here) and really impressive acidity (it’s still the case that Gewurztraminer with enough acidity to balance the grape’s more blowsy flavours is a speciality of Alsace, at least the best wines). Very long. Conclusion: clearly a superb SGN from a very good year. Hugel never disappoints. Brilliant and an especially good wine with a varied cheese board (blues in particular).  more
