Appearance: darkish gold. Nose: very intense pear fruit with that spiced cinnamon or cardamom, honeyed nose Alsace Pinot Gris develops increasingly with age. Palate: medium residual sugar, medium to medium-high acidity (although mellowed), rich but elegant with medium alcohol. Considerable length. Conclusion: despite the age here, as with many Rolly Gassmann wines, there is still plenty of potential for further maturation. Very good and from the days when ‘Tokay Pinot Gris’ was still permitted on the label. Drink now or through to 2012, perhaps beyond.
