Review for Tyrrell’s Winemaker’s Selection Vat 1 Semillon, Hunter Valley 1998

edwardragg Wine Blogger September 22, 2010
From the Landmark Tutorial Day 3 (22nd Sept 2010), ‘Semillon’ presented by Andrew Thomas. Appearance: medium to deep gold. Nose: gorgeous developing toasted, lanolin nose with lemon citrus – less lime fruit now – with various mineral and even a washed-rind cheese aroma. Complex. Palate: very well-balanced on the palate with moderate alcohol, highly complex developing flavours – more toast (but, note, no oak on this wine!) – with mellowed if still lively acidity and considerable length. Conclusion: the 1998 is certainly approachable, but for my money will go even further and be even better by 2013. Very good.
