Review for 19 Bota "No" - La bota de Cream

    justinjerez January 20, 2010
Deep reddish brown colour, with reddish almost amber lights. Bright and clean. Punchy nose which comes right out at you. The aromas are complex and continuously evolving. Something new every time you breathe in. There is a sweet, lifted, mineral character to the nose. Axle grease? It's just too complex to nail down individual aromas but there are woody, coffee, nutty, bees waxy, banana skin notes. In the mouth the wine is lively, has some body and is sweet. It has flavours so complex and evolving it's difficult to say of what they are. Caramel, coffee, liquorice, dates and then wax, old mahogany furniture moving on to toasty almost burnt flavours. The finish is very long, drying and passes through an interesting stage when the flavours remind me of damp leaf litter and fungus.

I've noticed the "La Bota..." part in the name of a couple of your wines that you've reviewed. What does that mean?

Hi Paul. "Butt" is the traditional term for a sherry barrel or cask. "Bota" the Spanish translation. "La Bota de..." is "The Butt of...Cream/Fino/Amontillado" or "The cask of...Cream/Fino/Amontillado". Hope this helps.
