Review for Kingston Estate ‘Empiric’ Petit Verdot 2003

edwardragg Wine Blogger July 22, 2008
Appearance: dark purple-red, orange rim. Nose: black cherry and prune fruit with cinnamon and clove notes and light oak. Not many secondary aromas yet, despite the orange rim (Petit Verdot must be pretty slow to oxidize). Palate: mellowing chewy tannins, medium-high acidity, high balanced alcohol and strong fruit with good length. Conclusion: fascinating to taste. This wine is ready to drink now, but will improve slightly up to 2010 and perhaps age for longer. The prune fruit quality really comes out later as does the evocative spice. Very good. Fruit comes from the Kingston-on-Murray vineyard.
