Appearance: deep gold-green, slight orange. Nose: strongly defined Pinot nose with biscuit aromas as well as some florality (but no Pinot Meunier here). Savoury and complex. Palate: palate was long with characteristically high acidity which is elegant here rather than tart. The dosage seems pretty low (turns out to be a modest dosage at 4g/litre). conclusion: the grapes for this wonderful wine come from Grand Cru vineyards of Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay. From 35-40 year-old vines, the assemblage is 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay. Surely the best growers’ Champagne I’ve had, including Vilmart (but I haven’t tasted the whole Vilmart range). Drink now, but will benefit from bottle-ageing too.
