Review for Volnay 1er Cru Pitures, Nicolas Potel 2003

edwardragg Wine Blogger December 12, 2008
Appearance: medium to dark purple-red, slightly orange rim. Nose: ripe red cherry fruit but also Volnay’s perfumed notes (i.e. not too ripe for what was a very warm vintage, of course), good oak and some pleasant cinnamon and other sweet-spice aromas. Palate: rich ripe fruit, but elegant throughout with lively acidity, coating medium tannins and very good length. Conclusion: this is without doubt one of the best 2003 red Burgundies I’ve had. Very impressive how something of the character of the vintage and a fidelity to Volnay combined here. Drink 2008-2013.
