Review for Rolly Gassmann Riesling Pflaenzerreben, Rorschwihr, Alsace 2000

edwardragg Wine Blogger January 22, 2009
Appearance: medium gold with green tints. Nose: intense Alsatian Riesling nose with distinct apple, even lime fruit but with developmental notes (slight mushroom, washed-rind cheese, but not so much petrol at this stage). Palate: some residual sugar here which is mellowed with age, lovely integrated high acidity (also mellowing in expression), lingering green fruit and complex savoury flavours. Good length too. Conclusion: the wines of Rolly-Gassmann are renowned for their ageing potential and complexity. This is no exception and, although developing, will survive in bottle without trouble beyond 2010. Very good. I’d wait a little longer.
