Review for Le Soula, Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes, Gérard Gauby (Rouge) 2007

Appearance: medium to deep purple (with distinct blue tinge). Nose: immensely fruity first nose displaying red cherry and black plum fruit. Although a cask sample, oak is in the background here. Palate: tight, gripping medium tannins are mouth-puckering in the first instance with abundant fruit to follow, medium to medium-high acidity and heady alcohol (although this should integrate nicely). Good length. Conclusion: not sure of precise assemblage here, but Grenache, Carignan and Syrah are likely components. This is clearly a baby at present and is not even bottled yet, of course. Nevertheless, the wine displays great promise. I expect it to blossom in bottle (approach from 2011). Rating reflects current quality.
