The wine doesn't balance properly, with oak overlaying the fruit so that there isn't enough brightness and the oak/acid/fruit equation is not quite there. It isn't awftul, and at less than £10 it is still entry level - but it is not one of the new world's best. Was it previously called 'Altapaca' I wonder? Same vineyard and varietal, certainly. The merchant has exaggerated the worth of this wine. It's quite ordinary. Don't go out of your way for it.

rckr1951 Wines from Patagonia are going to be hit and miss as the area first goes through growing pains, production growth by new producers and finally focusing on quality from start to finish. I'm looking for smaller vintners from there to start my wine buying from.
