Appearance: medium green gold, delicate mousse.
Nose: clear apple fruits with a honeyed, mellowed aspect. No autolytic nose here, despite the fact Loosen has followed traditional method. No doubt not much yeast is added or the wine is not aged for very long on its lees. This is a relief because Riesling probably wouldn’t respond very well to a yeasty, biscuity nose.
Palate: lively acidity, pleasant mousse, lovely mellowed apple fruit. Nice length.
Conclusion: most German Sekt tends to get overlooked as uninspiring sparkling, but this is clearly an exception with grapes sourced from one of the best Mosel vineyards. I don’t think this wine is actually commercially released and...
