For the Douro Virtual Tasting I decided to open a 10-year-old (2001) bottle originating from my father's cellar. I was expecting to decant the bottle but as soon as I opened it the nose came running after me and showed an incredible activity. The nose is complex and clearly dominated by notes of chocolate. The mouth is smooth almost silky with the body of the wine showing no signs of age. Acidity is there as well as a great finish that leaves me wanting to have more. For less than 10 euros (if you buy the most recent vintage - 2009) this a wine that evolves to something worth much more.
