From the Landmark Tutorial Day 5 (24th Sept 2010, Yarra Valley) ‘Fortified’ presented by Colin Campbell and Stephen Chambers. Appearance: very dark brown, very viscous (the sugar practically rolls over the rim of the wine!). Nose: dark soy-sauce, iodine, seaweed, glue, very intense dried fig, coffee, chocolate and later some dried red fruit aromas even. Very, very complex. Palate: very viscous, syrupy texture with incredibly complex flavours of dried fruits, coffee, cocoa and chocolate, Indian spices (sotolon), lifting acidity and super-high utterly inter-knit alcohol. Incredible length. Conclusion: so incredibly intense that a tea-spoon might be a suitable ‘serving vessel’. In a small ISO, however, you stand a much better chance of capturing this wine’s heady and super-complex aromas. Utterly brilliant. Compares very favourably in quality with the Para 100 Year Old Vintage Tawnies from Seppeltsfield. This was the final wine to be tasted at the 2010 Landmark Tutorial and a miraculous one to end on! One of the greatest fortified wines I am ever likely to taste. Drink now (as per the style).

bjwdad A sincere THANK YOU for all your answers to my questions, Edward! I'm nearly 50, but I'm still trying to learn every day.

edwardragg It has been my pleasure. No one ever stops learning about wine, regardless of age. Actually, I attended a Master Class yesterday in Beijing given by Etienne de Montille on the wines of Domaine de Montille and also the Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet. I'll aim to post these soon!
