Review for Clairault Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Red wine produced by Clairault in Margaret River, Australia

Appearance: very dark purple. Nose: predominantly dark black fruit nose of blackcurrant and blackberry with integrated savoury oak and some other savoury aromas (reminded me of the Chinese dongu mushroom, the same one as the Japanese shitake), but not secondary aromas here really, not yet. Palate: tight-knit tannic structure with grainy medium-high tannins, pleasant lifting acidity, lovely fruit, but a little closed up at present. Conclusion: this is clearly fine stuff, but needs time. Drink 2010 at the earliest. It will be behaving particularly well from 2012 onwards.
