  Dark, garnet in color showing dark earthy aromas that need time to be coaxed out of the glass such as leather, black cherry, chocolate and strawberries. Allow twenty minutes to pass, and suddenly what was earthy and fruity becomes more floral with notes of red rose and violet. Fun LBV! The bouquet actually reminds me more of an Alentejo wine than of a Douro wine. On the palate, the wine is very acidic, but slowly tones itself over the course of the hour, allowing the tannins to coat the palate with black licorice, black cherries and, of course, more dark violet flavors. I'll be interested to see what happens in an hour's time!  more

  Deep maroon color to this wine with a nose that is restrained and waiting to develop. A nice minerally chocolate component is the first thing to really hit me followed by dark fruits, deep and mysterious with light strawberry/violet wisps. Nice and round in the mouth with a firm acidity gentle tannins and a medium sweetness that leaves your mouth fresh on the finish. Lot's of chocolate and violets on this wine, followed by a pure minerality that I associate with schist for better or worse. As I go back to the wine the nose begins to show more and more violets and the palate starts to develop anise, and dark cherry notes, all the time encased in a dark chocolate exterior. Nice wine.  more
