Review for Penfolds Koonunga Hill 1998

Red wine produced by Penfolds in South Australia, Australia

Appearance: dark purple-red, slight orange rim. Nose: up-front dark fruits (blackberry, black plum) but with already some vegetal, secondary aromas. Becomes more savoury with aeration. Palate: rich mouthfeel, nice acidity, medium chewy tannins that seem to be quite well-balanced here with quite good length. Conclusion: 1998 is a strong vintage in South Australia and this wine showed that intensity, even at this level. Drink now to 2010, perhaps beyond (for interest).   September 24, 2008 | Link to this note
