Deep, dark red in colour. Decanting is must here. The nose starts off very closed with subtle dark fruit and earth, but builds into a great wiff of blackberry and black current with liquorice, spice, florals and earthy undergrowth. There is a bit of subtle oaky goodness as well, coffee and drinking chocolate with some more time. The mouth feel is pure velvet with classic Roda tannins, a satisfying texture builds as the wine sees more air. More dark fruit flavours with liquorice, a sprinkle of pepper and spice, with a wee bit of minerals and rocks. The finish is very long, nicely enhanced with some more minerals and tannin. Hmmm…it was a mistake to open it so young, now I want another bottle. I’ll leave the rest until 2009 and drink over 10 years. Bring on the 2002.
