A gift from a friend :)!, 13% alcohol. This has been a three-day project. Dark ruby garnet color, well-defined narrow pink ring. Wednesday - I could tell it was tight, but a variety of characters began to emerge throughout the evening as I sipped intermittently. Shy black fruit & a spicy herbal note at first, then a VERY prominent aromatic pipe tobacco character which was nearly identical to a pipe tobacco I have on hand (which had not even been opened at the time). The palate featured developing fruit with plenty of tannin and acidity. Fast forward to yesterday evening after 5 more hours of air... nose: chalky crayon note with dried plum. Less tobacco & more black fruit. Palate: no appreciable change…one more day! Thursday – the nose is more integrated or “blended.” The juice is starting to open up on the palate; still dominated by dry black fruit but with hint of cherry. Tannins and acidity are a force to be reckoned with through mid-palate and much of the lengthy finish. A bit of sweet fruit and mineral emerges at the very end. I’m not quite sure what to think – it’s clearly high quality but the tannins & acidity are a somewhat overwhelming (to me). I plan on buying another bottle and racking it awhile.

Grapefan Glad to hear you are going to given this some more time - I am sure it will need it. While you are at it try some other wines from Terredora. I've always found them to be of great quality

botto Aglianico based wines normally benefits of a few years in the cellar. I saw some '06 around but I haven't been so adventurous to try them. My most recent one was a '04 and I thought it was still young. Think Taurasi; not for nothing it is called the Barolo of the South.

bjwdad I very much wish I had more than a room-temperature (meaning between 75-80 degrees in sumer) wine rack. Then I might be able to store wine properly. I must go through it pretty quickly, and rarely hold on to anything more than about 6 months. :(

I just wanted to update on this wine. In the comments that we bantered back and for Ben felt it didn't really grab me and I agreed. I qualified that with the thought that it felt more like an amorone. Well....I treated the remaining part of the bottle like the afore mentioned and guess what? I shed it's coat and turned into a much, much better wine. What fruit there is ramps up nicely. This needs 2-3 full days in a decanter that can be sealed with a lit occasionally. It needs air and time to gather itself. No rating change - just a note to let you know. Paul

rckr1951 Ben - No it didn't. This is a stainless red wine and it maybe that it is not holding up well to travel, to time or a myriad of other things. I would have liked to have seen more fruit expression in the bottle. The other stuff was fine, but it needed more fruit IMO.

Grapefan Terredora has a good reputation in the UK especially for the slightly more unusual grape varieties such as aglianco, greco de tufo etc.
