Grapefan has reviewed the Felton Road Riesling 2009 /100
I should have checked the label before I opened this. At 10% from Central Otago I should have know it would be off dry but as I was not expecting this I was initially disappointed in the style. I didn't want an off dry wine at that exact point in the evening. That will teach me to read the label......... A very pale yellow in colour with green tinges. Aromas of yellow flowers, fruit and a hint of the "petrol" riesling aroma. Off dry, spicy with tropical fruit and apples along with some wet stone minerality. A lovely texture and weight to it from the residual sugar. Lingering after taste.

Felton Road is famous for Pinot noirs, but they also do one of the top riesling from New Zealand. Intense apricot, apple al floral nose. Pure and crystal-clear, light (10% alcool), around 50 g/l of residual sugar deftly concealed by the acidic backbone and the refreshing minerality. Concentrated and harmonic, with a tight and mineral finish, pleasantly long. Should also age well.
