    Appearance: medium red-purple, orange rim. Nose: delicate red cherry fruit, subtle oak, restrained Pinot aromas with slight development (mushroom, slight cheese etc.). Palate: lovely acidity (noticeably higher here than on the 2007 Spy Valley Pinot), fine, silky tannins and impressive length. Conclusion: this is a much more restrained style of Pinot Noir from the general Spy Valley Pinot. As with the rest of the Envoy range, it’s sourced from the Johnson Estate in Marlborough’s Lower Waihopai Valley. I hate to say this was ‘Burgundian’ in style because New Zealand’s winemakers are probably a bit fed up with wine writers praising the country’s more restrained Pinots...  more
