Review for Robert Mondavi Fumé Blanc, Napa 2007

edwardragg Wine Blogger February 8, 2009
Appearance: medium green gold. Nose: appealing peach fruit – Napa Sauvignon Blanc is much more at the peachy end of the spectrum than the green fruit-gooseberry v. guava herbaceous end. Oak is relatively restrained. Palate: lively medium-high acidity, not too oaky (which is a pleasant surprise) with a little yeasty quality (some lees contact). Some pleasant fruit too. Conclusion: this is really well-made. I’ll confess Fumé Blanc is not a style of wine I’m especially fond of, but the trend in Napa is to lessen the use of oak (also people have got a lot better at growing Sauvignon Blanc in what is a relatively warm climate). Good. Drink now.
