From the Landmark Tutorial Day 3 (22nd Sept 2010), ‘Semillon’ presented by Andrew Thomas. Appearance: light green. Nose: very delicate and mineral first nose revealing restrained green apple, lemon and a touch of lime fruit. Becomes more complex, even floral with aeration. Palate: bracing high acidity which is wonderfully integrated with the delicate green fruits here, moderate alcohol and considerable length. Conclusion: as with high quality Hunter Semillon from any producer, this wine can be enjoyed in its young phase but will repay long-term cellaring becoming increasingly toasted – but note the lack of oak here – with honey and lanolin aromas. Brokenwood has made an excellent wine in the promising 2009 vintage (2010 looks to be very good as well).
