Review for Ayala Zero Dosage

Sparkling produced by Ayala in CHAMPAGNE, France

Appearance: attractive gold colour, very fine mousse. Nose: sour first nose that seems to fall apart with aeration. There's obviously quite pleasant citrus fruit here, but it doesn't seem to sustain itself. Palate: fruit continues to fall flat and is not balanced with the predictably high acidity. Conclusion: I've yet to have a zero-dosage Champagne that really works. Ayala makes a great point of their zero-dosage wine being exactly the same assemblage, same base wines, everything, as the NV Brut Majeur. Although the Brut Majeur clearly has good fruit all round, if you eliminate dosage, shouldn't you have riper fruit?   September 3, 2008 | Link to this note
