I don't want to simply agree with the others, but I can note all of the things they refer to, and I agree that the wine is worthwhile but not outstanding. I think the winemaker knew that there were weaknesses and has been blending and re-blending like mad, and has probably done a really good job - but still the blend doesn't approach anything remarkable because the raw material was a bit ordinary, maybe. It doesn't balance out, and the lead hints are more church roof than graphite - which means too heavy for both of us drinking it tonight. But will age improve this wine? I think it will, but I have no idea how much. We ate it with minced steak and white cheese which gave it every chance, I think. Very interesting wine, as everyone agrees, it seems.

rckr1951 If you look at all the scoring and reviews it goes from a high (rransposed to a 100 pt scale) of 91 (Andre) to a low of 77 (Airdiogo). Balance seems to be the key, some found it, some didn't it would appear.

De cor bordeux brilhante, opaco e agradável à vista. No aroma fumeiro forte mas agradável. Uma madeira muita ligeira. Parece um pouco pesado mas fica-se com vontade de o beber. No sabor aparece suave. Enche meia boca e é algo amargo. Alguma compota e pêra madura ligeiros. Um vinho pouco consistente em que o aroma é muito melhor que o sabor e não coincidem. Um pouco desiludido no final.

I like the the smonikiness. Very interesting. The mouth is less interesting with a weird finish. Still an insteresting Alentejo bottle.

bjwdad "Smonikiness?" "Insteresting?" Andre, how much of the bottle did you drink? ;)

andre Ok, ok. This was the last wine of the tasting so my review is showing that a little bit. :)

rckr1951 Glad someone does it. Isn't it fun to write reviews you are smoniked.

bjwdad Spell check saves me when I'm smoniked. :) This time, spell check translated "smoniked" into "moniker," "simonized," "smocked," and "smoked." To be honest, I prefer "smoniked." Great new word, Andre! :)

Dusty gravel nose with nice chokecherry(from childhood) fruit pavement below! The nose is very mature and complex considering the price. In the mouth the wine is a bit thin, though has some nice herbal qualities that mingle with a layered cherry palate. Alcohol shows a touch but never gets in the way, and with all the minerals on the palate, it really is a wine that bears more interesting meats. I really want this with some Jabali(spanish wild boar).

bjwdad I must find a chokecherry and take a sniff one of these days! Not familiar with it.

rckr1951 Wait until later in the year. I've got 12-18 fruit bearing trees in the wooded area in the back of my property, I'll wrap them and send you some Bruce.

bjwdad Thanks, Paul! Suffice it to say they don't grow in the desert.
