Appearance: medium gold, intense persistent mousse. Nose: very savoury first nose with delicate citrus fruit and slight notes of red fruit from the Pinot. Mellowed autolytic aromas with slight mushroom smells. Palate: very angular just now with the high acidity of the 1996 vintage. Low dosage (around 3 g/l) that is well-integrated, although the acidity is still not that mellowed. Complex and long. Conclusion: Although there is some development on the nose, this is still a very young vintage Champagne stylistically. Drink 2011 onwards. This is essentially indestructible if stored properly.
