Pouring a faint greenish yellow, this well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc has a delicate and fragrant nose of tropical fruits, asparagus and white pepper with an added vanilla-like creaminess from some oak aging. The palate balances solid fruit with good acidity and sees a slightly weightier body from that bit of oak- the dried pineapple flavors leading to a tart finish with a very long-lingering flavor of fresh peaches (yum!). Overall, I can’t say anything bad about the balance on this one (pretty brilliant in fact), but it’s still just a little meh for me. I do have a limited experience with expensive Napa SauvB, but all that I’ve tasted seems to oak all the awesome pungent-grassiness out of the grape (well, the warmer climate helps it along too). Again, I can’t knock it with the balance and wonderfully flavored finish, but I’ll certainly look away from Napa if I’m gonna drop $25+ for a SauvB. Gimme some zing please!
