Nose is all about chocolate, toast and complexity. This is some serious... stuff! The mouth confirms the nose. Complex, great finish and quite delicious. A Douro wine is all its complex glory. I wish I had another bottle to try in a few years!

I discovered Grüner Veltliner at last year's European Wine Bloggers Conference in Austria and have since enjoyed many great examples of what winemakers can do with this variety. This is one of such examples. Very expressive nose. Floral, a little toast and tiny little buttery hint. Very very enjoyable. Then on the mouth there's just the right amount of acidity that I like in white wine together with great balance and structure. This is dangerously good!

botto I lived in Austria for 4 years, and I love this grape. Unfortunately in the US I have experienced that I have to spend at least $15 for a good one

andre It's a great great. Gruner can make really good wines. Wine in general need more distribution.

rckr1951 Botto - I've experienced the same thing most of the time!
Andre - You are absolutely correct with your last statement.

It's a been a while since I enjoyed a white from the Loire Valley. This is a 100% Grolleau Gris. Slightly sweet on the nose with some nice floral showing up as well. Good acidity, good light structure and a very harmonious finish. Should handle soft cheeses quite well. I'm looking forward to buy a few more bottle for my cellar.

rckr1951 Sounds excellent, but as with another wine just reviewed, I'll not find it here.

More and more I've been enjoying some of the whites coming out of the Douro wine region and this Vinha da Pala is no different from previous tastings. Made of Malvasia Fina, Códega do Larinho and Viosinho (typical Douro varietals) the nose is elegant and well defined setting nice expectations the tasting. Then it doesn't disappoint at all. On the mouth it's all very well integrated. Despite spending 8 months in French oak barrels it is well balanced and has a nice structured body without being overpowering. Good buy for around 18 euros.

botto Nice wine; I wish it was available in the US

andre Portuguese wine is lacking distribution in the US. So many good wines at good prices that should be heading your way. Maybe we can do something about it!

Being from Arraiolos (not your typical wine region) made me curious about this wine. Very dark on the color. Lovely chocolaty nose and quite intense on the mouth. Nice consistent finish. It made a lamb stew taste even better. Recommended.

The nose is tropical, fresh and makes you want to rush for the first sip right away and... I'm glad I did exactly that. Light body, great acidity and delicious finish. Made of Malvasia, Códega, Rabigato, Viosinho and Moscatel (yes!) this is a great Douro blend that shows the crazy diversity that can come from that Portuguese region. A sure winner for this summer (and the next). Enjoy with seafood, grilled fish or creamy cheese.
