Do you usually BYOB (bring your own bottle) to a restaurant?
BYOB is getting well accepted by more and more restaurants. I don't have access to a lot of BYOB restaurants but I would love to. Do you have nearby BYOB restaurants? Do you use them ? Comments

I never heard of BYOB restaurants. I would not dare taking my own bottle to a restaurant if that was not specifically allowed. I know restaurants make good money with wines.

André, are there any BYOB restaurants in Portugal?

Not that I know of. I've been trying to convince some restaurant owners to adopt it showing that they have better stuff to offer than wine. I know they make a lot of money on wine but charging a fee helps them cover that.

Sommeliers and restaurant managers find it disrespectful, although most of the restaurants in the US accepts it and apply a fee that might range from $5 to $35. If you do it, make sure you are bringing a great wine and the restaurant doesn't carry it on its wine list. A good web site for the US users is www.gobyo.com

I already noticed the explicit BYOB tax presented in some Portuguese Restaurants (in my case, Lisbon).
I totally agree with this, as long as you are taking a special wine that isn't available on the list. |

it was a flat rate dinner after all and I wasn't drinking what I've paid for, so they had no reason for not allowing me.
answering to your question: no i don't. but i'd like to do it more (just like i'd like to drink wine more often)
