The vineyards in Austria cover 51,000 hectares which generally lie in the east and southeast of the country. Austria as a wine producing country is divided into 4 wine growing regions of which ‘Wien’ (Vienna), Austria’s capital, makes up 700 hectares of vineyards. Vienna, along with Paris, Prague, Bratislava and London is one of the few remaining world capital cities with its own vineyards. Amongst the wines produced here, white wines undoubtedly comprise the larger portion, which we will happily explore.
VENUE: SCHÖNBRUNN PALACE
Schönbrunn Palace together with its ancillary buildings and extensive park is by virtue of its long and colourful history one of the most important cultural monuments in Austria. Scheduled as a listed monument, the whole ensemble, including the palace, the park with its numerous architectural features, fountains and statues and not least the zoo – the oldest of its kind in the world – was placed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1996.
